Demon King Daimao

Hey everyone! Woah. I am so spent!! I really did not know that I could feel tired watching anime for the past three hours straight. I thought I could stop after the first episode, but alas, I could not. It was quite an interesting anime, and I thought of sharing it with you guys right here, right now.

Alright, first thing. How did I come across this show? Well, I was browsing the many different anime titles that Crunchyroll has to offer on my iPad. For those who do not know what is Crunchyroll, it is actually a very cool application on the Apple App store which offers high quality video streaming of many anime titles direct to your iDevice. I am unsure whether the Google Play Store has it, but if it does, then download it immediately, I am saying this under the premise that you guys are avid Android buffs. Well, anyway, I was browsing through the many titles made available by Crunchyroll, and I felt that I wanted to watch a new anime that could really make me laugh. So, I searched under the category “funny” and caught my eyes on this anime that seemed to stand out from the rest.

Title? Demon King Daimao.

Demon?King? Must. watch. Really. For those of you who really love the countless Journey to the West adaptations, I believe you would share my sentiment. Demon Kings are a blast, and one can be assured that upon immersing oneself on anything related to demons, Time comes to a standstill, and one will definitely be transported into that world where you become one with the demons. However, I digress. So anyway, what is Demon King Daimao?

To start off, I must introduce the main character, Akuto Sai. Sai transfers into the Constan Magic Academy, where his ambition is to be an High Priest so that he can help people and do good around the world. However, shortly upon arrival, Yagatarasu, the school’s oracle, senses him and immediately announces that he will be the next Demon King. As a result, the whole school becomes terrified of him, and Sai, who really does not desire to be known as a Demon King, tries his very best to prove he is not, but his attempts often further solidifies his Demon King image, with hilarious results.

So the Demon King starts off his school life, and garners the annoyance of his class head but also the attention of a lovely girl with mysterious powers. The anime chronicles his life in the academy, and captures both the humour and seriousness of what happens in a magic academy. However, as the story progresses, the fine line between good and evil blurs, and sometimes, things are not actually how society seems to view them.

So like, after watching the first episode, I found myself immediately looking for the next episode to watch. The best thing is that Crunchyroll offers the whole series available for HD streaming, so for those who do watch Demon King Daimao, perhaps you can watch the whole anime in one sitting? I cannot, to be honest. I watched six episodes and I already have the urge to go into a coma. However, I highly recommend watching this anime. Why? Personally, I love anime that juxtaposes everyday life with mystical happenings. Like Naruto Shippuden, or Cardcaptor Sakura. It is amazing how the writers can actually make everything seem so sensible and real. Demon King Daimao is a perfect example of that. Also, I felt that the anime was quite funny but does not fail to capture the direness of a future Demon King right inside the school. There was a perfect mix of hilarity and sternness, and the setting seemed so perfect. Be forewarned though, the anime is quite...how do I put it...sexy. There are some adult themes in this anime, but I can assure you that there is no sexual content whatsoever.

Still, when it comes to Demons and Angels and Magic, this Anime managed to capture it all. Watch it, I can safely assure you that you will not regret it. Watch it. Watch it. WATCH IT.

Till next time, Demon King Chichiri Signing off!!
