Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3

I recently dug up a few of my old PSP games, one of them being this: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3!

I'm a huge fan of the Naruto series, though I must confess, my love for the series has gone down after I've caught up with the latest development. But no matter, that is a rant for another time. Right now let's move to to the game!

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 is a rather simple game; there is the story mode, where you progress through the series as either Naruto or Sasuke. Then there is the battle mode where you can choose your own character to battle against the rest of the selection. But of course, you have to first unlock the multiple different characters.

As you progress through the Story mode, you have to save up enough points to 'buy' Ninjutsu, Skills, and Collectibles. They're quite easy to earn, all you have to do is complete the missions. I rather like the story split between Naruto and Sasuke, but gameplay takes you through the one of the earliest arcs- the part where Gaara gets kidnapped. Kind of stale if you ask me. But then again, I've had this game for an age, so Gaara's kidnapping might have been quite fresh when I bought the umd.

You play as Naruto for the first few chapters of the story mode, and after completing that, you unlock Sasuke's story mode. I love playing Sasuke's story mode, if only because he speaks a lot for his route. (Isn't Sasuke's voice just eargasmic? If you don't think so, you can't be my friend.)

sasuke!
I don't really mind the fact that I'm playing through an old arc, since I get to see the older characters in action. Like Itachi, for example. And Deidara. Whoooohoooo. And Kakashi isn't as weak as he is now, so it is a good way to reminisce about Naruto's earlier days.

The gameplay is quite simple. There are only three different types while in Story mode: Battle, Speed Mission, and Story. As the name suggests, the Battle type is where you have to win a battle to proceed. The Speed Missions are where you have to reach the goal within the given time period, and the Story ones are just conversation placeholders.

During missions, there are also certain goals you have to complete, for example, a 20 hit combo. Even if you do manage to defeat the opponent, without reaching the 20 hit combo, you still fail the mission. Sigh. Those missions took me a few tries to complete.

I love using Deidara during the earlier chapters, his special skill is the C2 Dragon, which is hella awesome because I don't have to go too close to the opponent for the skill to hit. For Combo missions though, I suggest you take Kiba, his Fang over Fang easily stacks the combo points. Gaara is pretty strong too, it's just that he is rather slow, so.

Some missions allow multiplayers, and at that time I think it was a new feature? The battle mode features multiplayers too.

It didn't take me long to finish the game, but if you do wish to complete the entire set of collectibles, you might have to play over a few times to save up enough points for them. The character collectibles are rather expensive.

Overall I would say I did have fun replaying Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3. I do also have another Naruto game, the one featuring the princess from the Moon Village or something like that but somehow I can't find my umd. /cue loud sobbing

Oh well, we're not fated to be. These two, however, are fated to be together for life.
