A Letter To The Badges

Dear Badges,

It was an early Saturday for me, however I didn't mind the little frenzy just to be able to meet all of you. Thanks to a nice man, I had an opportunity to experience something different for the first time in my life. I thought that it would be awesome to hop on the bandwagon alongside the rest of the enthusiasts. So after a rather long train ride, I found myself at this place known as Marina Bay Sands. A major event was in the running, and outside the convention halls were huge clusters of people and vibrant colours. A friendly voice greeted: "Welcome to the STGCC!"

That was it. My debut participation in an event which had been graced by nearly 40,000 visitors in addition to hundreds of exhibitors, special guests and international media. Gosh! Even the early morning was already packed to the brim. What was I supposed to do? After a minute or so of looking at the program guide, I became more confused. Never mind, a little adventure wouldn't hurt...after I had managed to locate the exit. Honestly, I don't think that I could ever match the average otaku in terms of enthusiasm. The booths were bursting with people, people, and more people. I was able to wobble through whatever space that was remaining in between though.

Then, I found all of you. Sitting comfortably in various trays at the booth of Secret-Garden were the gang from Free! Eternal Summer. Haruka, Makoto, Rin, Nagisa, Rei, Gou, Sousuke and Kisumi! Hats off to the illustrator who designed the chibi versions of all of you. I wasn't going to leave the convention without buying something, even though for a moment I had thought that there wouldn't be anything which could catch my fancy. There were just too many variations lying around screaming "Buy me! Buy me!" but unfortunately I don't breed portable money trees, so after some painful (?) deliberation I decided to settle on those! Naturally, I was so thrilled yet at the same time a little sad that I couldn't bring the rest of you back. I didn't realise just how seductive (?) little badges could be! Anyway, it was really nice knowing that you guys have such a massive following in neighbouring waters.

Oh yeah, I had also bought some candy on my way out. The matcha milk candy was really delicious! Choco Baby was...edible, I guess. I wish I had tried the ice-cream though. By then, the afternoon crowd had started to gather. As much as I would like to burn off some extra calories, I didn't think that playing a human sandwich could be any effective. Even though I hadn't stayed long in the convention, I still had quite a blast in the midst of all that madness. I saw the unity of all the artists who simply wanted to share their beautiful creations and hopefully be appreciated by more people through opportunities like this. I felt the loyalty of the many supporters who crowded around the booths and such. I saw cameras flashing around.

And I saw all of you. Now, how about a nice home for all of you? Ta-da!

Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.

Eccentrically Yours.
