Winter WonFes 2016!

To All,

Happy Chinese New Year! While most of the people out there are busy with their visiting schedules, last minute preparations before their relatives come to visit, or even just simply binge-eating the nicest Chinese New Year goodies they can get their hands on, I'm all alone at home, down with a fever and quite a bad cough.

At least that gives me the excuse to not go visiting. It's like this easy way out to get red packets in while not hearing all the annual gossip and questions that make you wonder what on earth privacy is, and by that I don't mean that you should follow what I did. I'm genuinely ill, alright?

So while Asian countries generally are indulging in Chinese New Year, I'm following the Japan and Western side this year (finally) and am indulging in WonFes 2016.

What is WonFest 2016, you may ask. It's an abbreviation for Wonder Festival, which is this reputable, widely-known figure convention where big-name figure companies come down with their new figure announcements, painted or unpainted prototypes, and more information about upcoming figures. As a huge anime figure dork, there's absolutely no way that I wouldn't join in instantly to see what's new.

Of course, because I'm ill and all, I wasn't given permission to go to Japan so everything I'm going to mention here would be from a WonFes list complied by Kaneel from Myfigurecollection. You can view the entire list here!

As for myself, I wouldn't say that there's much I'm looking forward to in this new year. What I mean by that is there aren't that many figures which I feel this impending urge to purchase, but there's many I would like to see how they turn out~

Below is the list of items I have my sights set on. I have divided them into "Will get", "Might get (if it looks good enough)" and "Want to see how it turns out (most likely not getting)".

Let's get started!

Will get:

Ononoki Yotsugi from Monogatari Series 1/8 Scale
I didn't manage to collect all of the previous monogatari scales since I was being choosy and I regret my decision so much. Right now, I would like to get all of them, but the aftermarket prices are scary. So, I guess Ononoki-chan will be on the top of my wishlist from this WonFes for quite some time. I can't wait to see how she turns out!

Oshino Shinobu (KissShot Acerola-Orion Heart Under Blade) Chara-Forme
She's still unpainted but she looks so cute already! I kind of made it a rule to cut down on all figure purchases so I can direct my expenses mainly to scale figures but I doubt I can say no to her. Besides, one can never have too many Shinobu, can they?

Koizumi Hanayo from Love Live! 1/8 Scale
I have considered getting Alter's Hanayo after getting Alter's Kotori since their outfit theme match each other so well. And yes, I do want this Hanayo. My only gripe is that the angle of her head is slightly off and I hope that Alter would correct it, if at all, before releasing it for preorder. One can dream, right?

But on a more serous note, I would most likely be getting this Hanayo. She's my second best girl in Love Live! I just can't say no to her.

Might get:

Mizunashi Akari from Aria Series 1/8 Scale
Akari is my favorite girl in the series and I desperately want something to remember it and her by. However, I don't exactly have high hopes for New Vision Toys as they haven't exactly made any figures which I actually considered purchasing before. Nevertheless, I do like the anime (and since I started on Aria's game too) well enough to keep a lookout for this!

Alicia Florence from Aria Series 1/8 Scale
Again, it's New Vision Toys. I'll also be keeping a lookout for Alicia-san since I don't want to get Akari without her beloved Alicia-san. Hopefully they'll both turn out fine!

Mikazuki Munechika from Touken Ranbu Nendoroid Co-de
Here's the guy who sparked much displeasure among Touken Ranbu fans in WonFes. Although there were many who were glad to get more upcoming Mikazuki, many fans were displeased that Good Smile Company actually went ahead to make him a Nendoroid Co-de while many other Toudanshi still did not have a Nendoroid yet.

On the other hand, since my best Toudanshi (Shokudaikiri Mitsutada) has a Nendoroid already, I'm just hoping Good Smile Company announced his scale and Co-de as well, which they unfortunately didn't. Is the upcoming Micchan Kotobukiya scale my only hope of acquiring a scale of my beloved Gantai-kun?

Hotarumaru from Touken Ranbu Nendoroid
I once thought that I would be pleased with only Mikazuki and Micchan (Shokudaikiri Mitsutada) being the only Toudanshi figures I own, but then this Nendoroid came along and blasted my opinion out of the window entirely. Now I find myself wishing they'll announce a Ishipapa (Ishikirimaru) Nendoroid as well. Oh god, Touken hell...

Want to see how it turns out:

Mizunashi Akari from Aria Series 1/8 Scale
This is another Akari figure, different from the one above. For this figure, she already has a prototype and I'll like to see how the colored final product turns out. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be getting her since her waist already looks strange to me (too thin?) but part of me is hoping that that's just the camera angle or lighting, or that Wing (figure company) will realize this and make some changes to it.

Nicolas Brown and Worick Arcangelo from Gangsta 1/8 Scale

Due to the numerous scales I have on order this year already, I'm afraid I would have to pass on their preorder. Hopefully I'll be able to snag them from the aftermarket at an affordable price in the future!

And that concludes my wishes and things to look forward to from Wonfes 2016. Did any of my favorites coincide with yours?

  1. Mitsu is my fave toudan too! GSC/OR most likely won't do a scale fig of him but Kotobukiya will this year. Btw hi, fellow milkcananime writer Nana here ^^
