Garden of Words is another popular title by Shinkai Makoto, though admittedly much less popular than Kimi no Na wa. However, there is something so peaceful and relaxing in Garden of Words that isn't fully replicated in Kimi no Na wa. One part of this is due to the background, colors, choice of words, and the intervals between dialogue.

From this artbook, I'd like to replicate the feelings I got from watching Garden of Words. However, as usual, I will not be showcasing every image in the book clearly but solely enough to give a feel of what the artbook contains!

The cover uses pastel colors and a very serene color palette. The highlights on the figures make them seem very faraway and clearly sets the image that they aren't in front of the reader, but in something like a faraway land in a book. This atmosphere is contrasted against the fact that they are in Japan, and rather modern Japan if high-rise buildings are anything to judge by.

The back of the cover is mainly white, with small screencaps to give a preview of what the inside of the book would look like.

This is how the book is slid out and the actual book is pleasing to look at! I'll show the front and back of it to show the illustration of the book. The landscape looks amazing, with the gradient of the sky and the clouds arranged as such. The lighted up parts of the sky easily make a stark contrast against the darker shadows embellishing the buildings.

Finally we get to open up the book. Illustrations fill almost every other page and we get to see this very familiar branch. Those of you who watched the movie probably remembered this scene and the same branch was later used to show how time has passed, through the change of seasons.

Another feast to the eyes would be the train station and rain falling. Not only does the rain set the mood, it also creates kind of loneliness and additional aspects which accentuate the color scheme chosen here.

This is another location fans would recall. It is here that the main characters met on rainy days in summer and shared a memorable and meaningful time together, egging each other on to forget the past and move on to a better future. As such, rain is once again used here, alongside with the forest-y green to set the feel of a park. We can also feel that it is a serene place, and this is probably done by surrounding the hut with shrubs and cool colors such as green and blue.

Some pages have the right half with words and the left half with an illustration as seen below. As the book is read from right to left, you'll come across the words then the image, hence making looking at the image more meaningful after reading the words.

Some examples of more illustrations! It's rare to see pink instead of green, yet something about this is still so relaxing to look at.

We see that the facial features here isn't the most crisp we've ever seen but the color scheme and shading complements it so well that we can't nitpick even if we wanted to.

Similar to the movie, we proceed through the months. We get to see more intimate moments between the main characters, but at the same time we know that their impending separation would happen soon.

As usual, the beauty of the rain drawn hurts just to look at it. When would I ever reach half of this skill.

Here's Takao's room if anyone needs it. It's like he's a minimalist and yet it is so messy around the table area... I'm conflicted.

And lastly, the very final scene!!! Such a beautiful landscape view. I'm literally shaking.

Would I buy this book again?
Yes definitely. It's a steal at its current price and even without watching the source material you can still appreciate the illustrations for their beauty. Having the majority being landscape artwork also further emphasizes that you don't have to know the characters!

Bungou Stray Dogs is a creative mix of ideas that introduces characters with names of reknowned authors, Japanese and of other countries. I've only seen the anime, but I think it is a pretty good series one should check out, especially if you're into literary works. The reference game is strong with this one.

In the series, they are from different associations that for some reason don’t get along to the extent the members always have to battle it out - as if the chaotic world there are born in isn’t chaotic enough. Adding on to that, almost all of the members have unique abilities for combat, named after some of the real-life authors’ famous works.

Season 1 touched on various events that are not exactly connected, but it is mostly centred on happenings when Nakajima Atsushi escaped from his orphanage and meets Dazai Osamu (who had been attempting to drown… But that’s just how Dazai is, obsessed with suicide ever since he joined the detective agency, or maybe even before that). The Detective Agency is where Atsushi ended up in and he helps out in the investigation of various odd events around town, most of them turning out to be quite sinister.

From the start, Port Mafia was the Agency’s most troublesome adversity they have to overcome. While aiding the Agency in defending against them, Atsushi meets new enemies, friends, and also finds out more about why these two groups just don’t get along. In addition, he also has to face his inner demons which was nailed into him from his horrifying experiences at the orphanage he was at.

Season 1 then ends with some sort of premonition to events that will occur later in the timeline. The last episode starts off with yet another battle to be conquered by Atsushi, but with the introduction of new characters and new fears, viewers might hope for more information about where the plot will take the story to.

Season 2 does that, but the anime starts off with Dazai’s past involvement with Port Mafia which explains the events leading up to Dazai’s decision to join the Agency in the first few episodes.

If you’ve got a glimpse of Dazai’s character in season 1, Season 2’s first few episodes give quite a fresh insight on what Dazai had been like and other sides of Dazai one may not often see when he’s currently with the agency. And after that the anime jumps back to the current timeline, where Atsushi and gang faces even more complicated troubles from before, to the point they even had to evacuate the headquarters.

Season 2 also shows many other things: unexpected enemies and alliances, introduction of more characters, the different sides to each character etc. All were made possible with a new association entering the scene and declaring war on the area where the detective agency and port mafia reside.

For the plot, my friend described it as a two-way battle turned three-way battle and then it was revealed the manga is now having some sort of four-way battle… Well. To me the plot does not particularly stand out, the settings and the characters however fascinates me more. Also I am not up-to-date on the latest events in the manga so I cannot really comment much here.

The individual personalities, and interactions is something that one should watch out for. Besides Atsushi's background, there was also further insight into Kyoka's, Odasaku's and the past of various members from Port Mafia. If I recall correctly, Dazai was one of the characters where the plot focused on the most. Season 2 revealed he was not always the Dazai I saw in season 1, and that he actually has a different, maybe even compassionate side to him.

Even Dazai's relationships with Atsushi, Akutagawa and Chuuya are quite different as well. He sees Atsushi as a great potential, Akutagawa as someone he’d rather leave in the past (but I don’t think he quite can….) and Chuuya as someone he would very much rather stay far, far away from even though they had previously joined forces before to form the most terrifying combination around, dubbed as soukoku.

I like this series, though it only really held my attention when I started on season 2, because it is where things get really interesting as it is where the plot started going places. The various twists in the course of the story are quite fascinating where many things are not what is made out to be, and one can even take some life lessons away from the story. It's something I'd recommend if you're a literary enthusiast or someone who likes shows that make use of supernatural forces!

YAY! I have finally POPed. Since I was sick for my BMT’s POP, experiencing this one made my NS experience a little better. Now in my unit, I’m back to what I did in polytechnic. Filming and editing videos. Yes, I joined the media team in my vocation, which means I get to experience a lot of things. But looking at the schedule given, I have a sense of dread of what’s to come further down the line, especially since my seniors are going to ORD soon. 

But despite a busy schedule, I still make time to play games. Since I had bought a PS4, I might as well use it rather than letting my sister use it to watch K-pop idol’s videos using MY Youtube account or watch dramas on the television screen. Not that I mind any of it.

Recently, I had finally finished Tales of Zestiria and OH MY GOD! What is with that final boss fight!? I died 37 times just to finally get to another boss fight. I had to do trial and error and gauge who to use first, who deals the most damage, who is useless in that short time frame. It took to me too long to take him down. 

But I at least enjoyed the story though. The ending was bittersweet as some ships didn't sail and also the amount of sacrifices in the game is just... 

I remember saying goodbye before every shot I took.

Nier; Automata came out recently and I’ve been spending a lot of my time on it. 

I was overjoyed and surprised when I got the message that my pre-order had arrived as I had thought that the game will be release on March 7. But thankfully, the Japanese version had English sub and dub in it so I can enjoy it a little bit faster. 

I mean come on 2B looks so badass, hot and the way she walks is just so sassy. I just love the character so much. 

I had thoughts of pre-ordering the Black Box edition as it comes with the figure and few other things but well, my wallet feels a bit light lately so I refrain myself from treading a path of no return. 

Plus, I still have Horizon Zero Dawn coming soon, so I have to spend my money wisely until the next paycheck comes in which is in a week. 

I’m going to spend hours just exploring and looking at the world in that game. I just can’t wait for it to be release. A few more hours.

Another thing I did was selling my copy of Fate/Extella and buying the Noble Phantasm edition of the game. When I saw the box, I just had to get it and it is one of the reasons my wallet is lighter now but man, do I love them special editions. 

Lay them all together backwards, they form your command seals

Just having one makes you feel better.

There’s just too many good games coming out this year that some games I just can’t get to, like my copy of Gravity Rush 2. And I was so excited for it too. I need to divide my time more wisely now, especially since I am able to go back home every day. What to play?

After a long list of single events, we finally get a double event! This would be another event that I participate in after a long break from tiering. My aim for this event is to at least T1 Yohane (that is at least 40k points) and do my best to T2 for Ruby. That will give me 3 copies of Yohane and 2 copies of Ruby.

Do note that this is the first event where you can use up to 100 lp in a single play, hence no more 4x event songs. This is also the first event where players get song ranking based on their score for the event song, hence adding a new dimension to tiering. 

 Yohane can be acquired solely through event points. One copy of her is given at each hallmark: 11k, 25k and 40k event points.

Ruby is solely acquired through tiering and you cannot get even a single copy of her until the event ends and the rewards are given out. To get 3 copies of her, you'll have to T1 however I don't have that form of dedication for Ruby and am content with simply T2.

Also, with the new system of being able to use up to 100 LP (and 300 tokens) per play, this would mean huge jumps in event points as it will be much easier to amass tokens and use those tokens for points. After considering all these factors, T1 seems very far out of my reach.

This is the song ranking reward and it is cumulative. T1 means better rewards and all tiers below are simply subsets of it. An SS seal is definitely worth it (you need 5 to idolise a UR).

 This is a brief explanation of how to collect tokens and convert them into points~

The last stretch of the event is particularly tedious, especially the last few hours. Many players fell out of T1 as a result of other players spamming the newer updates of increased LP per play. This increased the gap between T1 and T2 greatly, and the effort and number of love gems used would have to be so much more that it makes the third copy of Ruby from T1 extremely less worth it.

Some players also fell out of T2.

After the event, it is time to collect the rewards. As I have collected the cards before I remembered to take a screenshot, I only have the seals to show the song ranking reward. As you can see, I am in T1 for song ranking since Smile is my strongest team.

For ranking itself, I managed to acquire 6000 points within the last 2.5 hours and brought my points to 51k, successfully putting myself way above the cross-fire of T2 cutoff. I also managed to snag the scouting ticket at 50k in the process!

T1 ended up at 88888 points and that would mean an additional 18 plays of the event on 4x Expert difficulty (5400 tokens). To collect that number of tokens, roughly 200 plays of regular songs on 1x Expert difficulty must be played (5000 LP). This would mean an additional 36-40 love gems must be used, in addition to the 22 I have already used, to barely scrape past T1 for this event.

For me, spending nearly 60 gems to T1 for any event is definitely not worth it. How about you?
