Back To Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road

Yesterday, I watched the brutal, intense race between Sakamichi and Sangaku, who are members of Team Sohoku and Team Hakone Gakuen respectively. While I had sort of expected that frustrating cliffhanger, I couldn't help but curse a little as the screen froze at the wheel that crossed the finish line. In this case, I suppose that it does help tremendously to have the manga progressing way, way ahead of the anime since any discomfort could easily be relieved within a few pages. Yeah, spoiler or not we would still know the jersey which crossed the goal (unless any reader insists otherwise). Anyway, there is still a long, winding road beyond Inter-High, and I'm glad to have been able to witness the blood, sweat and tears of everybody involved in the journey thus far. I'm returning to Grande Road, and picking up the pieces that I've left around.

Naturally, the first thing to do is dust the jukebox which hasn't been processing much from the world of anime quite unfortunately. The cover art of Determination brings the seniors in Team Sohoku - Kinjou, Tadokoro and Makishima under the striking spotlight with all three giving their final best shots in Inter-High. The adrenaline kicks in rapidly as the number resonates with the heart to race for the title despite what reality could easily pull back. My heart goes out to Kinjou, who has fought his very best even though his pact with Fukutomi couldn't be carried out till the end. Nonetheless, his efforts were acknowledged by Team Hakone Gakuen. The unwavering determination to bring out the fullest potential of the first-years, particularly Sakamichi, meanders through the rest of the race course.

The first-years have shown their equals the extent of just how shockingly and unpredictably powerful they could be during times of uncertainty and struggle. Kinjou had mentioned the importance of Sakamichi, whose glaring lack of road racing techniques and such may seem like an impossible barrier to overcome yet those shortcomings would somehow become overlooked in favour of what Sakamichi could surprisingly deliver to the frequent disbelief of everybody else. This unconventional approach would see Sakamichi through various obstacles, some of which could easily be brushed off as an attempt to fish a needle in the haystack. Well, I suppose that most of Sakamichi's strength still comes from Love Hime! His somewhat childlike wonder has amused his peers, but over time that transformed into a unique form of energy which continues to be a needed pillar of support for the rest of the team. Kinjou's advice to Sakamichi on helping team mates in need in turn became his own reminder in the nick of time.

My guess is that anime wise, 'everything' would come to a close once the finale of the second season airs. A part of me feels that while it would be nice to have the series run for another season or so, the miles those guys have clocked in would then have to stretch way further without any risk of bursting the bubble. In any case, I'm looking forward to month's end - the declaration of the overall winner of Inter-High.

Eccentrically Yours.
